‘The Goonies’ sequel is in the works: Where are the original cast members now?
Richard Donner’s action-adventure fantasy turns 40 next year. Let’s take a look at what the cast members are doing today.
Richard Donner’s adventure comedy movie The Goonies first hit screens in June 1985. Based on a Steven Spielberg short story, the movie tells the tale of a group of four kids who stumble upon an ancient map which will guide them to buried pirate treasure.
They manage to track down the location of the treasure - the Lighthouse Lounge, an abandoned restaurant but in their way stand the dangerous Fratelli gang who are using the building as a bolthole and base. To make their quest even more fun, and dangerous, the pirates set a series of booby traps to safeguard their booty.
Director Richard Donner passed away in July 2021. But whatever became of Mikey, Brand, Chunk, Data, Mouth, Stef, Andy and Sloth? Let’s take a look.
Sean Astin
Sean Astin (Santa Monica, California, 1971) plays Michael ‘Mikey’ Walsh, the leader of the group of friends who call themselves The Goonies who live in Goon Docks, Astoria, Oregón. He is a science fiction fan and loves adventures. Sometimes he struggles to pronounce words and he is asthmatic so he takes his inhaler everywhere he goes.
Sean Astin started his acting career in the mid-80s, he landed parts in Please Don’t Hit Me, Mom, The B.R.A.T. Patrol, Like Father Like Son, Memphis Belle, Toy Soldiers, Rudy, The War of the Roses, Encino Man, Jeremiah, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, 50 First Dates, Slipstream, 24, Stay Cool, The Strain, Stranger Things, The Big Bang Theory, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The Shift. He also provided the voices for Raphael in the animation series Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, for Shazam in Justice League War and Hércules in the videogame Kingdom Hearts 2.
Josh Brolin
Josh Brolin (Santa Monica, California, 1968) played Brandon ‘Brand’ Walsh, Mikey’s older brother, a tall, sporty adolescent who vigorously defends his brother from the abuse he receives: “Nobody hits my brother except me...” He wears a sports headband and casual sports clothes.
Josh Brolin made his acting debut in ‘The Goonies’, and would later appear in series such as Private Eye, The Young Riders, Winnetka Road, Mister Sterling and Outer Range, as well as movies including: Finish Line, The Road Killers, Mimic, Nightwatch, Hollow Man, Into the Blue, The Dead Girl, Planet Terror, No Country for Old Men, American Gangster, W, Jonah Hex, Men in Black 3, Oldboy, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, Sicario, Deadpool 2, Dune and Dune: Part Two, as well as doing voiceover work. lending his voice to Thanos in Marvel Studios productions, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
Brolin married twice and has four children from his relationships with Alice Adair and Kathryn Boyd.
Corey Feldman
Corey Feldman (Los Angeles, California, 1971) es Clark ‘Mouth’ Devereaux, another member of the Goonies gang - the most talkative one, who the others are always telling to shut up. He is alsoMikey’s best buddy and shows off his talent for speaking Spanish. He’s also a big fan of fizzy drinks, especially Pepsi.
Corey Feldman started out as a child actor, working in cinema and television at the end of the 70s, appearing in series such as Eight is Enough, Alice, The Bad News Bears, Mork & Mindy, Madame’s Place, Tales from the Crypt, Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go!, The Two Coreys, and movies such as: Time After Time, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, Gremlins, License to Drive, Rock ‘n’ Roll High School Forever, Maverick, Evil Obsession, The Birthday, Terror Inside and Splatter. He too was hired for voiceovers, providing the voice of Donatello in the smash 90s movies Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II. His voice also appears on videogames such as Normality, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Danger of the Ooze and Minecraft: Story Mode. He starred in video clips for Michael Jackson’s Liberian Girl, Katy Perry’s Last Friday Night and Thirty Seconds to Mars’ City of Angels. Feldman has also released our studio albums (such as 1994′s Love Left), which feature his own material - he sings and plays keyboards.
Jeff Cohen
Jeff Cohen (Los Angeles, California, 1974) is Lawrence ‘Chunk’ Cohen, the chubbiest member of the Goonies who often regales invented stories, made-up tales and lies. He usually wears a Hawaiian shirt.
Jeff Cohen began his career at the start of the 80s, making minor appearances in TV series such as Tales from the Darkside, Webster, Kids Incorporated, Family Ties, Amazing Stories and She’s the Sheriff. He enjoyed film roles in Little Shots and Perfect Harmony. His voiceover work includes Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School. After retiring from acting, he studied law and set up his own law firm, Cohen & Gardner, in Beverly Hills, California.
Ke Huy Quan
Ke Huy Quan (Vietnam, 1971) es Richard ‘Data’ Wang, the smallest component of the Goonies who has a special affinity for gadgets; he’s a James Bond fan and has a youngest sister called Lily.
Ke Huy Quan’s acting career began in 1984 when he landed the role of Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. He later appeared in Passenger, Breathing Fire, Encino Man, Second Time Around, Finding ‘Ohana and Everything Everywhere All at Once, as well as series such as Together We Stand, Head of the Class, Eunuch & Carpenter and Loki. He also worked as an assistant director and stunt choreographer in films including X-Men, The One and 2046, as well as lending his voice to Kung Fu Panda 4.
Ke Huy Quan won numerous awards including an Oscar and Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as Waymond Wang in Everything Everywhere All at Once.
Kerri Green
Kerri Green (Estados Unidos, 1967) plays Andrea Theresa ‘Andy’ Carmichael, a high school cheerleader, Stef’s’ best pal and Brand’s love interest. Her role in The Goonies was her screen debut. She later was hired for roles in series such as ABC Afterschool Especial, In the Heat of the Night, Mad About You, ER and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit as well as movies including Summer Rental, Lucas and Complacent.
Martha Plimpton
Martha Plimpton (New York City, 1970) is Stephanie ‘Stef’ Steinbrenner, the second oldest member of the Goonies and Andy’s best friend. She has a love/hate relationship with Mouth.
Martha Plimpton’s career took off in the 80s, and since then she has starred in numerous movies including: Rollover, The Mosquito Coast, Another Woman, Beautiful Girls, Music from Another Room, 200 Cigarettes, Hello Again and Family Ties, as well as television series such as ER, The Good Wife, Younger, Brockmire and Generation. She too has done voiceovers - providing narration for Frozen II along with videogame work for Minecraft: Story Mode. Martha also has a long career working in theater and has appeared in several Broadway productions such as Pal Joey and Top Girls.

John Matuszak
John Matuszak (Estados Unidos, 1950) es Lotney ‘Sloth’ Fratelli, is the tallest member of the notorious Fratelli gang. Feared for his disfigured face - the result of the physical abuse he was subjected to during a difficult childhood. He’s a big fan of Superman and old pirate movies.
John Matuszak started out in the acting world in the late 70s after his career as a professional American football player ended. He was a defensive end for the Texans, Chiefs, Redskins and Raiders before his playing days ended in 1982.
By then he had already appeared in three films: North Dallas Forty, Caveman and The Ice Pirates. Other post-Goonies roles included scenes in: One Crazy Summer, One Man Force and Down the Drain along with television series such as M*A*S*H’, Hollywood Beat, The A-Team, Miami Vice, Aaron’s Way and Superboy.
John Matuszak passed away in October 1989 at the young age of 38 due to an accidental overdose of the prescription drug Darvocet. Unmarried, he left his estate to his mother and three sisters in Wisconsin and his two Super Bowl rings were passed on to his nephews.
