Prince William and Kate Middleton are already giving thought to the future of their seven-year-old daughter, and it’s believed the Royal Family has no intention to bring Princess Charlotte into the fold in terms of senior duties.

As King Charles III progresses into his reign, the 74-year-old reportedly intends to cut back on royals with paid roles within ‘The Firm’, preferring a “slimmed-down” version of the monarch instead.

Prince William in agreement

The news comes after the Prince of Wales’ younger brother, Prince Harry, officially stepped away from his royal duties in 2020 and King Charles’ younger brother, Andrew, was removed from his royal duties in 2022.

Daily Mail Diary Editor Richard Eden says that King Charles III “wants a slimmed-down monarchy” and that Prince William agrees.

“The Prince and Princess of Wales want Charlotte, aged seven, to grow up with the expectation that she will get a job and not be a full-time royal,” Eden wrote, confirming that Prince William, next in line to the throne, shares the same vision.

Eden, however, has conflicting views with the idea of a slimmed-down monarchy, leaning toward the idea that more hands on deck is better.

“Personally, I would prefer to see a larger Royal Family, carrying out more official engagements and meeting more members of the public,” he wrote.

The heir/spare tension

With the central question of his column being the topic of how the royals can avoid history repeating itself when it comes to the heir/spare tension that could affect the Wales’ children, Eden analyzed the sibling relationships within the Royal Family.

Though Charlotte will have a traditional job in society, she will need to always be prepared to step into a royal role without notice.

“If Charlotte is to get a job and not be an active member of “The Firm”, she needs to be ready to step into the breach, if needed.’

Prince Harry told the Daily Telegraph after the release of his explosive 2023 tell-all memoir, ‘Spare’, that he fears one of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s children would “end up” like him, as a spare heir.

“Though William and I have talked about it once or twice, and he has made it very clear to me that his kids are not my responsibility, I still feel a responsibility knowing that out of those three children, at least one will end up like me, the spare,” the Duke of Sussex said.
