Prince William and Princess Kate will be attending the 2023 British Academy Film Awards show on Sunday, as confirmed by Kensington Palace, which will be held at London’s Royal Festival Hall in the Southbank Centre.

The royal couple is set to watch the ceremony from the first row, and then have the opportunity to mingle backstage and meet with the winners.

Though the pair have made a number of charity appearances in recent weeks, this will be the first black-tie event in the public eye since recent controversy surrounding the royal family after Prince Harry published his memoir, ‘Spare’.

Prince William has been the president of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts since 2010, but the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have skipped the last two awards shows in a row. Last year, the couple had a scheduling conflict, and the year before the ceremony took place around the time of the death of Prince William’s grandfather, Prince Phiilip.

Prince Philip served as the president of the organization from 1959 to 1965, and Princess Anne held the same title from 1973 to 2001.

The attendance of royals at high-profile events like the BAFTA awards offer another level of glamor and appeal, drawing lots of attention to the event — and especially to the royal couple.

Variety reports that a boundary has been put around the couple to keep out certain reporters and allow others in.

“A strict royal rota is likely to be in place,” the article said, “meaning William and Kate will only engage with a select group of journalists on the ground.”

The most-nominated film is ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ with 14 nominations, and tied for second place at 10 nominations is ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ and ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’.
