Late Show with Stephen Colbert

With excitement building about upcoming guests in the mould of Jennifer Garner, Patrick Stewart, Baz Luhrmann, and Kelsey Grammer, fans may have been more than disappointed to hear the news on Tuesday morning that host of The Late Show, Stephen Colbert has had to cancel. But, fear not, he’ll be back soon enough.

Colbert recovering from ruptured appendix

“Sorry to say that I have to cancel our shows this week. I’m sure you’re thinking, ‘Turkey overdose, Steve? Gravy boat capsize?’” Colbert’s social media post read.

Actually, I’m recovering from surgery for a ruptured appendix,” he went on to explain. “I’m grateful to my doctors for their care and to Evie and the kids for putting up with me. Going forward, all emails to my appendix will be handled by my pancreas.” The jokes never stop.

Wishing you a speedy recovery, Stephen.

What happens now with The Late Show?

As the message above states, the shows for this week have been cancelled but we’re yet to hear plans for how this will pan out thereafter and what the potential rearrange of the guest slots will look like.

What is a ruptured appendix and how serious can it be?

As the medically literate folks at John Hopkins tell us, ‘the appendix is a thin tube that is joined to the large intestine. It sits in the lower right part of your belly (abdomen). When you are a young child, your appendix is a working part of your immune system, which helps your body to fight disease. When you are older, your appendix stops doing this and other parts of your body keep helping to fight infection.’

They continue: ‘the appendix can get infected. If not treated it can burst (rupture). This can happen as soon as 48 to 72 hours after you have symptoms. Because of this, appendicitis is a medical emergency. If you have symptoms, see a doctor right away to avoid more infection, which can be life-threatening.’ As we know, Colbert did.
