The reasons why Miss Panama was expelled from Miss Universe 2024: who will replace Italy?
The woman representing Panama, Italy Mora, has been removed from the upcoming Miss Universe pageant.
Just days before the 73rd edition of Miss Universe is set to take place in Mexico City, the organization behind the world’s most famous beauty pageant has announced that Italy Mora, the representative of Panama, has been expelled from the competition.
Why has Miss Panama been removed?
“This decision was made following a thorough assessment by our disciplinary committee,” shared the Miss Universe Organization in a statement on November 2.
“The disciplinary committee, responsible for upholding the integrity and values of the pageant, conducted a comprehensive review of the matter. Based on the information gathered and reviewed, it was concluded that withdrawal is the most appropriate course of action under the current circumstances,” reads the statement also published on the organization’s official website.
The Miss Universe Organization further clarified that the decision was related to “maintaining confidentiality and respect throughout this process.
“Over the years, our pageant has been a beacon of diversity, inclusion, and empowerment for women worldwide. In this regard, adhering to strong ethical principles, such as confidentiality and respect, is essential to maintaining the integrity of our organization and the well-being of our participants,” added the MUO. The candidate has not been replaced.
What has Italy Mora, Miss Panama 2024, said?
The organization has not disclosed the exact reasons behind Miss Panama’s departure, beyond stating that she violated disciplinary rules. For her part, Mora revealed on social media that she was informed the decision was due to infractions related to leaving her room. The contestant admitted that she did indeed leave, as she went out to do her makeup and retrieve personal items.
“I want to express that I believe this was a very severe measure, and that instead, the issue could have been resolved with a conversation or a warning. This experience has been emotionally challenging, especially given the time, effort, resources, and the support of those who made it possible for me to prepare to represent my country,” she added.
Later, Mora posted the following message on X.
“I maintain my stance in demanding a formal copy from the Miss Universe International Organization of my dismissal and the sanctions applied. I am NOT the first in Miss Universe to experience similar situations.
“I request that the rights that were violated be acknowledged, and that consideration be given to the extortion we faced from both national and international organizations,” she added.
