The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has revealed the 2023 inductees
The new inductees include Kate Bush, Sheryl Crow, and Missy Elliott.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame class of 2023 has finally been revealed, adding to its list of 365 inductees, a list that began in 1986 and consisted of Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley, and Ray Charles.
Now, almost 40 years later, a new host of inductees is being included, representing a variety of genres from Kate Bush, Sheryl Crow, and George Michael, to Missy Elliot.
Here’s a look at some of the inductee’s reactions, and the full list of inductees for 2023.
Sheryl Crow
“I’m shocked,” Sheryl Crow said of her inclusion in this year’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in an interview with Rolling Stone.
“I didn’t see it coming. I didn’t see myself getting in the first year. It’s such an honor. I’m just super excited,” she added.
Crow is one of five artists now to have won a Grammy for best new artist, which she received in 1995, and also be included in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. She joins Carly Simon, the band Crosby, Stills & Nash, Bobby Darin, and The Beatles.
Kate Bush
“I have to admit, I’m completely shocked at the news of being inducted into the Hall of Fame!” Kate Bush said in a statement to Rolling Stone.
“It’s something I just never thought would happen. Thank you so much to everyone who voted for me. It means a great deal that you would think of me. It’s such a huge honor,” she added.
Kate Bush has been enjoying a resurgence of success since her 1985 hit ‘Running Up That Hill’ was included in the latest season of ‘Stranger Things’. The show helped the song reach the number 3 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, a first for the artist, who has never had a song chart higher than the number 30 spot in the U.S.
Missy Elliott
“I can’t stop crying,” the rapper tweeted, sharing the news to her fans.
In another tweet, she wrote: “I want to say this is HUGE not for just me but all my Sisters in HIPHOP this door is now OPEN to showcase the hard work & what many of us contribute to MUSIC. I have cried all morning because I am GRATEFUL thank you @rockhall & all on the committee & Supafriends.”
Elliott’s induction this year comes during her first year of eligibility, meaning it has been 25 years since she released her first record, “Supa Dupa Fly’ in 1997.
