The ‘This Is Us’ star that decided to leave Hollywood and move to the South: “It was all very dog eat dog”
Actress and singer Chrissy Metz explained why she swapped Los Angeles for Nashville in a recent interview.

After more than two decades in Los Angeles one of the stars of ’This Is Us’ made the decision to leave Hollywood behind in search of a more peaceful life.
Chrissy Metz rose to fame for her portrayal of Kate Pearson in the NBC series from 2016 to 2022. She appeared in 92 episodes and earnt herself Primetime Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award nominations, but found the pace of life in LA wasn’t to her liking.
“I moved to Nashville,” Metz explained, in an interview with People. “I was in LA for 21 years, but my family is in Florida, where I’m from, and during the pandemic, I could drive to them from here. It’s just a better quality of life here. Everything is 15 minutes away, and it’s just so much less stress.”
“There’s a lot going on,” she continued. “There’s obviously great music, great food. I grew up in the South, so I’m used to sort of that hospitality—it feels more communal here. In L.A. it was always like, ’Oh, you have an audition? What’s it for? Oh, you have an audition? What for?’ It was all very dog eat dog.”
Chrissy Metz embarks on a new career
It’s not just the house move, either. In recent years Metz has sought to transition into a career as a singer, as part of her band Chrissy and the Vapors. Last year fans got a taste of her singing voice in ‘The Masked Singer’ as Poodle Moth but she was eliminated at the quarter-final stage.
“I’m still educating people on me being a singer, so it was part of the reason I wanted to do this show,” Chrissy told E! Online. “We’re really going full throttle. You don’t even know how much sweat is in this suit.”
“I got my big break and, well, the rest is history,” she continued. “Now, all these years later, I’m here on the most fantastical stage singing my heart out as the adorable Poodle Moth.”
