Who will sing the National Anthem at the 2023 Super Bowl?
Stapleton won’t be the only one singing an anthem however, as there are set to be a trio of anthems in tonight’s football championship.
The 2023 Super Bowl will see the Philadelphia Eagles take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Arizona Sunday night.
The country crooner, who has accumulated a number of different country music awards, including eight Grammy Awards, 15 Country Music Awards, and 10 Academy of Country Music Awards, sat down for a press conference prior to Game Day.
Stapleton shared that singing the anthem at the beginning of a sporting event sets the tone for the evening, so the responsibility is not one to be taken lightly.
“The national anthem’s not an easy song for singers. It’s one that can go horribly wrong as we’ve seen many times in the past,” Stapleton said. “But if you’re gonna do it, this is the place to do it.”
“I’m gonna go out there and play. And play it like I play it.”
Joining Stapleton in the opening anthem-singing ceremony will be 12 time Grammy Award winner and R&B artist, Babyface, singing ‘America the Beautiful’.
Sheryl Lee Ralph, who has won an Emmy Award, a Critics Choice Award, and an Independent Spirit Award, will sing ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing’.
Anthems in ASL
Tony Kotsur will be hand signing the national anthem along with Stapleton on behalf of the National Association of the Deaf. Kotsur is the first deaf man to win an Academy Award.
Colin Denny will perform ‘America the Beautiful’ in American Sign Language alongside Babyface, and Justina Miles will sign ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing’ with Ralph, as well as sign the halftime show.
