What are the biggest box office bombs of 2024 so far?
We’re only halfway through the year, but hollywood have already served up plenty of stinkers.
In the ever-volatile world of cinema, not every film can be a blockbuster. Using information from Box Office Mojo, a part of IMDb, has revealed the biggest box office flops of 2024. Despite featuring all-star casts and high production values, several films failed to meet expectations, resulting in significant financial losses.
Here’s a closer look at the top flops of the year so far.
Argylle
Topping the list is “Argylle,” which experienced a monumental profit loss of $103,824,401. Despite a hefty production budget of $200 million and a star-studded cast including Henry Cavill, John Cena, and Dua Lipa, the film grossed only $96,175,599.
This colossal shortfall underscores the fact that even big names can’t always guarantee box office success.
The Book of Clarence
Produced by Jay-Z and starring LaKeith Stanfield, “The Book of Clarence” is second on the list with a profit loss of $33,162,404. With a budget of $40 million, the film generated a mere $6,205,230. Even with high-profile involvement, the movie failed to achieve financial success.
Origin
Ava DuVernay’s biopic “Origin” ranks third with a profit loss of $33,162,404. The film, which had a budget of $38 million, grossed only $4,837,596. It only had a limited theatrical release.
The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare
In fourth place is Guy Ritchie’s “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare,” which saw a profit loss of $32,764,384. The film, which had a budget of $60 million, managed to generate only $27,235,616 in revenue. This marks another disappointment for Henry Cavill, who also starred in “Argylle.”
Land of Bad
“Land of Bad,” starring Russell Crowe and Liam Hemsworth, is one of the biggest box office bombs of 2024. The film, which had a production budget of $25 million, grossed only $6,938,728 worldwide. This significant underperformance has placed it as the fifth largest box office bomb of the year so far.
The best (worst?) of the rest?
There are five other films making up the top 10 biggest flops:
You may have been expecting ‘Madam Web’ and ‘Furiosa’ to make this list, but both films just about broke even for production costs. However, once marketing is included, estimated to be around the same as the production costs, both were also bombs.
