What caused the death of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s son, Nicholas?

News of Nicholas Lloyd Webber’s passing comes just days after his father Andrew said he had been moved to hospice care.

The oldest son of Andrew Lloyd Webber, Nicholas “Nick” Lloyd Webber, has passed away at the age of 43.

What caused the death of Nicholas Lloyd Webber?

“I am shattered to have to announce that my beloved elder son Nick died a few hours ago in Basingstoke Hospital,” Andrew said in a statement. “His whole family is gathered together and we are all totally bereft.

“Thank you for all your thoughts during this difficult time.”

Nicholas Lloyd’s passing comes following an 18-month-long battle with gastric cancer, and just a few days after Andrew announced that his son had been checked into hospice care after being diagnosed with pneumonia.

“As my friends and family know, he has been fighting gastric cancer for the last 18 months and Nick is now hospitalized,” Andrew wrote in a March 18 update. “I, therefore, have not been able to attend the recent previews of Bad Cinderella and as things stand, I will not be able to cheer on its wonderful cast, crew and orchestra on opening night this Thursday.”

“We are all praying that Nick will turn the corner. He is bravely fighting with his indomitable humor, but at the moment my place is with him and the family.”

Nicholas Lloyd Webber was a Grammy-nominated composer

Nicholas Lloyd Webber was born on July 2, 1979 to Andrew and Sarah Hugill, Andrew’s first wife. The couple were married from 1971 to 1983.

Nick was a Grammy-nominated composer having scored ‘Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella’s’ original cast album in 2021.

He also scored the BBC One series ‘Love, Lies and Records’, the film ‘The Last Bus’, and the short ‘Mr. Invisible’.

In 2011 and 2012, his musical adaptation of ‘The Little Prince’ was performed at the Lyric Belfast, and he admitted that he was nervous ahead of the show given his connection to his famous father.

“But I’d just like to think that the show will be judged on its own merits,” Nicholas told The Telegraph. “That’s all anyone can ask for.”
