Tom Kane, the voice of Yoda in the Star Wars series, dies: what was his cause of death?

The actor behind one of animation’s most iconic Jedi leaves behind a vast legacy across ‘Star Wars,’ video games and television.

Tom Kane, Star Wars

Yoda was one of the recurring characters in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, one of the most successful animated series in the Star Wars universe. The actor who voiced him, Tom Kane, has died at the age of 64, according to his talent agency, Galactic Productions. Throughout his career, Kane also portrayed other characters from the saga, including Admiral Yularen, while lending his voice to video games such as Call of Duty and Minecraft Dungeons.

Kane suffered a stroke in November 2020 that forced him into early retirement. Since then, he had struggled with speech difficulties.

What other voices did Tom Kane do?

“From his unforgettable performances in ‘Star Wars’ to his countless animated series, documentaries and video games, Tom brought wisdom, strength, humor and heart to every role he touched,” the agency wrote. “His voice became part of our lives, our memories and the stories we carry with us.”

Beyond his work as a performer, Galactic Productions also highlighted his devotion to family. “Tom was a devoted husband and father who, alongside his wife, built a loving family with nine children – three biological and six welcomed through adoption. That compassion and generosity defined who he was just as much as his talent did. Though his voice may now be silent, the characters, stories and love he gave to the world will live on forever.”

Kane also voiced several other classic Star Wars characters in different projects, including Boba Fett, C-3PO and Qui-Gon Jinn.
