Following its mouth-watering world premiere in London - the Royal Festival Hall had the delectable privilege - at the end of November, cinemas around the US open up on Friday 15 December with the first Wonka screenings.

What is the new Wonka movie about?

As already stated, this version of the movie is a prequel to the iconic story of the genius chocolate factory owner. Directed by Paul King (who you may have admired from his efforts with the Paddington movies) there are similarities with Tim Burton’s version, plenty of music to chew on, but clearly develops from Wonka as a young lad, dreaming of opening his world-famous chocolate factory. Clearly many obstacles, including big business rivals, lie in front of him making his path to success a sticky one to traverse.

Which actors are in the Wonka cast?

In the enchanting world of Wonka, where whimsy and wonder collide, it is the cast of characters that bring the magical tale to life. At the center of it all is the charismatic Chalamet, donning the iconic top hat and cane as Willy Wonka. The 27-year-old’s portrayal infuses the character with a fresh blend of charm and eccentricity, breathing new life into the enigmatic chocolatier.

Beside Chalamet, the delightful Calah Lane steps into the shoes of Noodle, adding a sprinkle of youthful exuberance to the fantastical mix, while Keegan-Michael Key takes on the role of the Chief-of-Police. Paterson Joseph embodies the mysterious Arthur Slugworth, Matt Lucas brings a unique flair to Prodnose, while Mathew Baynton channels the eccentricity of Fickelgruber, as the kaleidoscope of characters populating Wonka’s world grows. Sally Hawkins lends her talent to portray Willy Wonka’s mother, grounding the tale with a touch of maternal warmth, and the instantly recognisable Rowan Atkinson steps into the shoes of Father Julius with his signature humour.

One of the actors that is making more headlines than most for his performance is Hugh Grant, being transformed into the whimsical Lofty, an Oompa-Loompa, with some confection-based secrets to share.
