On Thursday 25 January Netflix premiered a series inspired by one of the most well-known Colombian drug traffickers of recent times. It’s called ‘Griselda,’ and features Sofia Vergara, known best for playing Gloria in the award-winning comedy Modern Family, in her first dramatic role of her career.

Although the series has received positive reviews since its release, particularly for the performance of the actress from Barranquilla, the family of the drug trafficker Griselda Blanco has expressed their discontent with the launch and even attempted to file a lawsuit.

Griselda Blanco’s son speaks out on Sofia Vergara

Michael Corleone Blanco, one of the sons of the late drug trafficker, criticized Netflix. In fact, initially, he and his siblings sued the platform and Sofia Vergara, arguing that the Blanco family’s consent was not taken into account in documenting Griselda’s life.

Now, Corleone Blanco has also criticized Sofia Vergara’s interpretation and transformation. In the production, she had to use dental prosthetics, a wig, and a plastic nose to embody the character that was once compared to Pablo Escobar.

“My mother was a beautiful woman. The fact that they call her ugly offends me. People see her police photos and take that, but when you read my book, you’ll see that my mother was called ‘the porcelain doll’ in her youth,” Michael said in an interview with the British newspaper The Daily Mail.

According to Corleone, various powerful men were captivated by his mother’s beauty. “Mayors, governors, and politicians from different countries tried to seduce my mother, even here in the United States.”

For him, his main discontent stems from the fact that the company and the actress did not consider the family’s approval during the development of the series. “Sofia’s team and the Netflix creators were disrespectful and ultimately developed the Griselda project on their own for commercial gain, without key details from the Blanco family. If my mother were alive, they wouldn’t have gotten away with it,” he concluded.
