What do we know about the new Eminem studio album: ‘The Death of Slim Shady’?
The Detroit born rapper has confirmed that his first studio album for four years will get a summer 2024 release.
Fresh from his appearance at the 2024 NFL Draft ceremony where the 51-year-old Detroit native initially featured heavily in the trailers showcasing the event with league commissioner Roger Goodell.
Eminem introduced his hometown team the Detroit Lions on Thursday night at the event and the hip-hop star availed of the spotlight to confirm the release of his twelfth studio album The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), with the title a possible hint that this could be the rapper’s farewell album?
It’s been four years since the last Eminem offering with ‘Music to be Murdered by’ receiving mixed reviews from fans and music critics alike.
Eminem posted the announcement via his social media accounts with a short video trailer for the new album.
Slim Shady is the rapper’s famous alter ego he has referenced in his music frequently, beginning with his Slim Shady EP in 1997 and The Slim Shady LP in 1999.
In the trailer, a crime reporter announces the death of Slim Shady, saying, “Through his complex and oft-criticized, tongue-twisting rhymes, the blonde anti-hero known as Slim Shady has had no shortage of enemies.”
Then, rapper and long time collaborator 50 Cent is seen saying claiming, “He’s not a friend, he’s a psychopath.”
Further details relating to the definitive release date, lead single and guest artists are yet to be confirmed but the confirmation backs-up Dr. Dre’s affirmation of a new album drop after stating that Eminem intended to release a new album in 2024 during an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! last March.
