What happens to John the Baptist in ‘The Chosen’ Season 4?

‘The Chosen’ director Dallas Jenkins has revealed that this is the season of the emotional portrayal of John the Baptist’s death.

The series chronicles the life of Jesus from the perspectives of his disciples, the masses, religious leaders, tax collectors, prostitutes, and Roman soldiers, to form a coherent retelling of Jesus’ life and ministry according to the gospels.

The first season of ‘The Chosen’ became the highest-ever crowd-funded entertainment project, raising $10 million from over 19,000 people, and went on to earn over $50 million to produce the second, and third season. The show has surpassed 500 million views worldwide after its first three seasons.

When will the death of John the Baptist happen?

In a six-minute video revealing ‘The Chosen’ cast and crew hard at work on Season 4, Jenkins and some cast members commented on the inevitability of the death of John the Baptist – and that audiences might want to start preparing themselves soon.

“We won’t say when, but it’s coming, the death of John the Baptist,” confirmed one cast member in the video.

“It’s a death that you expect, but you don’t know how it’s gonna happen,” said another.

“We knew all along John the Baptist was going to die,” Jenkins adds. “It’s cool to have the opportunity to recreate that very impactful moment in Scripture.”

“Not just John the Baptist’s death, but all the things around it how it impacts Jesus’s disciples, particularly Andrew, who was close to John, how it impacts Jesus,” the director continued.

Making it as relatable as possible

In the video posted to YouTube on Sunday, Jenkins can be seen coaching David Amito, the actor who plays John the Baptist, as the crew walked through some scenes.

“The scene calls for it to be a little bit darker. We want a darker scene but we gotta also be able to see. I just can’t register that that’s the tough part, how do you make it dark and Light?,” he said.

Amito commented that he was greatly impacted by playing the significant historical figure.

“To be in the position where John the Baptist is like, ‘No, I know my purpose, and I’m willing to die for it,’” the actor said. “It’s that extreme place, I think I’m gonna process the philosophy like weeks after.”
