Bruce Springsteen is canceling the remainder of his 2023 tour due to peptic ulcer disease.

In a statement posted on his Instagram, it was mentioned, “Bruce Springsteen has continued to recover steadily from peptic ulcer disease over the past few weeks and will continue treatment through the rest of the year on doctor’s advice.”

The statement read, “With this in mind, and out of an abundance of caution, all remaining 2023 tour dates for Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band will be postponed until 2024.”

Will fans lose their tickets?

The new statement promised fans that rescheduled dates will be announced next week, with postponed tickets still valid and refunds available for those unable to attend.

The “Born to Run” singer had been on tour since Feb 1 of this year, his first major tour in six years, and faced several bumps in the road due to health problems. The tour kicked off in Tampa, Florida and a month later in March, Springsteen had to postpone several shows. Then in April, Springsteen and his wife got covid, but that happened during a break between the first leg of the U.S. tour and his Europe dates, so nothing was rescheduled. In August, Springsteen abruptly canceled two concerts due to what was an undisclosed illness at the time, just hours before he was set to take the stage.

E Street Band member Steven Van Zandt posted a supportive message about the postponements, saying, “No need to be anxious or afraid. Nothing serious. Just a temporary situation. We will all be back in full force very soon.” A month later, the “Dancing in the Dark” singer announced on social media that all his September dates were postponed due to his disease.

How serious is Springsteen’s health problem?

Peptic ulcers develop inside the stomach or small intestines. The most common symptom is stomach pain.

In his statement on Instagram, Springsteen apologized to fans saying, “thank you for your understanding and support. We’ve been having a blast at our US shows and we’re looking forward to more great times. We’ll be back soon. Love and God bless all, Bruce.”
