Chef José Andrés is set to appear on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday, with viewers much anticipating his always-entertaining screen performances.

The 54-year-old Spaniard was born in the northern town of Mieres and now lives in Washington DC. Andrés has already starred plenty of times on American television, with his Tortilla Española recipe with Fallon bringing in thousands of views, but his charity work goes a lot further than that.

He is the founder of World Central Kitchen, a not-for-profit non-governmental-organisation that provides meals in response to humanitarian, climate, and community crises.

Who is José Andrés and when did he come to the United States?

Andrés and his family moved to Barcelona when he was young, where he enrolled in culinary school at the age of 15. Three years later, Andrés was required to serve in the Spanish military, where he cooked for an admiral. After that, with cooking firmly sealed as his vacation, he met Ferran Adrià, for whom he worked at the restaurant El Bulli from 1988 to 1990.

According to the website Celebrity Net Worth, Spanish restaurant Eldorado Petit was where Andrés first worked in the US, following his sacking from El Bulli. He grew in stature as a chef and food connoisseur and, after working at various restaurants, he starred in his own cooking show, entitled “Vamos a Cocinar,” in 2005. The same year, he published his first book, “Tapas: A Taste of Spain in America.”

What is José Andrés’ net worth? How did he make his money?

Celebrity Net Worth says that José Andrés has a net worth of around $50 million, putting him in the top 15 richest chefs in the world. As well as Andrés’ work with WCK, he is also a well-respected restaurateur, and owns restaurants in cities across the USA, such as Chicago, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Washington, DC.

WCK has provided meals in such countries as Palestine, Ukraine, Cambodia, Zambia, Uganda, Peru, Nicaragua and Cuba. For his work, Andrés has been given various awards, such as the National Humanities Medal from the US government and James Beard Humanitarian of the Year.

He is married to his wife, Patricia Fernández de la Cruz, and the couple have three daughters. Andrés has also taught gastronomy-related courses since 2010 and has taught a culinary physics course alongside chef Ferran Adrià at Harvard.
