What ‘The Flash’ means for the DC Universe under James Gunn

‘The Flash’ garnered positive reviews after it was screened at CinemaCon, with fans now wondering what it means for the DC Universe.

DC fans are already eagerly awaiting the release of ‘The Flash’ on June 16, 2023, as early screenings have been overwhelmingly positive.

The film was shown at CinemaCon, with much of the talk at the convention centered on the upcoming Warner Bros. Pictures film.

“It’s the best superhero movie I’ve ever seen,” Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav said of the film, having watched it three times.

What ‘The Flash’ means for the DC Universe under James Gunn

James Gunn, who will officially say goodbye to Marvel Studios and solely dedicate his time as co-chairman and co-CEO of DC Studios with Peter Safran after May 2023, has said that ‘The Flash’ will reset the entire DC Universe.

With plenty of new shows and movies in the works, including ‘Superman: Legacy’ and a new Batman movie, fans have been wondering how the DC Universe will change once ‘The Flash’ is released.

Director Andy Muschietti shed some light on the matter during a recent Q&A with sister and producer Barbara Muschietti, all while managing to avoid spoilers.

“As you know, this is not the final version,” the director said, as per Entertainment Weekly. “What you saw is not the version that you will see in [theaters] June 16. And after June 16...”

That’s when Barbara intervened, with Andy laughing off the situation: “I’m sorry. There’s a lot of surprises.”

After gathering his thoughts, he added: “That’s the great thing... You asked me, is this a timeline where some things are similar and some things are not, the answer is yes.

“Now, if you want to know more, go watch the movie and pay the ticket [price]. What I’m saying is you might reformulate your question and I will be there to answer.”

What does it all mean?

As to what this all means, time will tell, but it appears there will be elements added to the film that was screened by the time it hits theaters on June 16.

Could the film be holding off on a casting reveal? Will the added element refer to projects that are in the works?

What we do know is that as per Gunn, ‘The Flash’ will lead into ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’, which is scheduled to be released on December 20.
