Update:
When does ‘What Jennifer Did’ premiere on Netflix? New documentary release date, trailer

An about-to-be-released Netflix documentary, What Jennifer Did, provides an in-depth look at the case of Jennifer Pan, a story in which a drawn-out web of deception culminates in murder - and yet more lies.

Made by Jenny Popplewell, a director also known for documentaries such as 2020′s American Murder: The Family Next Door, the feature-length film is out on Netflix on Wednesday 10 April 2024.

What Jennifer Did: what’s the doc about?

On the night of 8 November 2010, three armed men entered the Pans’ home in a sleepy residential town in Ontario, Canada, and shot Jennifer’s parents - mother Bich Ha, and father Huei Hann. Bich Ha was killed instantly, and Huei Hann was hospitalised in critical condition.

Having somehow survived being shot in the head, Huei Hann woke up from a coma days later - and his memories of the home invasion proved key to helping investigators get to the bottom of the case.

It was a violent crime that shook a quiet Canadian town,” Netflix’s official synopsis reads. “Mysterious intruders break into the home of Vietnamese immigrants, terrorize the family, and leave a traumatized daughter as the only witness.

“Neighbors and friends describe the family as hospitable, generous, and hard-working - how could they be targets?

What Jennifer Did draws on police interrogation footage, as well as interviews with detectives who worked on the case, and conversations with people close to the Pan family.
