When is Napoleon released in the USA? Theaters, schedule, times, date and cast
Ridley Scott’s much-anticipated historical drama features Joaquin Phoenix and Vanessa Kirby in the lead roles.
One of the biggest films of 2023 is set for release this week as Ridley Scott’s Napoleon hits theaters.
The historical epic covers the life of Napoleon Bonaparte, the illustrious French military leader who defined an era for his nation. The film is both financed and produced by Apple Studies and is tipped to be a box office smash.
Scott reunites with Joaquin Phoenix for Napoleon, making this the duo’s first joint project since the Oscar-winning film Gladiator in 2000.
Napoleon release date in the United States
The hotly-anticipated new movie lands in theaters across the United States on Wednesday, 22 November. The film will be available to stream exclusively on Apple TV+ at a later date.
There is huge interest in the film and, given that this is Thanksgiving weekend, consider booking in advance to avoid disappointment at the cinema.
The film has a running time of two hours and 38 minutes.
Who is in the cast for Napoleon?
The eponymous role in Scott’s historical epic is played by Joaquin Phoenix, who won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 2019 for his performance in Joker.
He stars alongside Vanessa Kirby, who plays Napoleon’s consort Queen Joséphine. Kirby won a BAFTA for Best Supporting Actress in The Crown and was later nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in Pieces of a Woman.

Also in the cast Tahar Rahim plays Paul Barras, a politician who was a key figure during the French Revolution. Ben Miles plays Napoleon’s advisor Caulaincourt. Thérésa Cabarrus, a socialite and member of the French nobility, is played by Ludivine Sagnier.

Napoleon was first announced by Ridley Scott in October 2020, which was to be based on a screenplay from Scott’s frequent collaborator David Scarpa. He soon secured the involvement of Phoenix, fresh from his success with Joker, and partnered with Apple Studios for the production.

Scott has said that he had wanted to explore the character of Napoleon for some time, tracking his incredible rise to the very top of French society.
“Napoleon is a man I’ve always been fascinated by”, Scott said in a statement. “He came out of nowhere to rule everything — but all the while he was waging a romantic war with his adulterous wife Joséphine.”
“He conquered the world to try to win her love, and when he couldn’t, he conquered it to destroy her, and destroyed himself in the process.”
