Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to make a biopic on the life of Britney Spears based on her autobiography ‘The Woman In Me’. Here’s what we know.

The life of the Princess of Pop is ready to be brought to the big screen. Following the success of her memoir, ‘The Woman In Me’, Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to the book to capture the life and career of Britney Spears in a biographical film.

According to a press release from the film studio, the project will be directed by filmmaker Jon M. Chu (Wicked, Now You See Me 2) and produced by Marc Platt, winner of three Oscar nominations, two Tony Awards and two Primetime Emmys.

When is the release of Britney Spears’ biopic based on her book ‘The Woman In Me’?

Since the project is in its early stages of development, Universal Pictures has not yet announced a date for the film’s release. The movie has also not yet been cast, since a casting director has yet to be assigned.

However, the studio says Spears will play a major role in selecting the actors, as she will have to give her full approval to the casting, including the coveted role of the multi-award-winning artist.

Who will play Britney Spears in her biopic?

While there are no talks yet on who could play Spears, social media has begun to place its bets, putting celebrities such as Sabrina Carpenter, Tate McRae, Sydney Sweeney, Dove Cameron, Millie Bobby Brown and Florence Pugh on the radar.

The success of ‘The Woman In Me’

In 2022, Britney Spears signed a $15 million deal to write and publish a book about her life. The book chronicles her rise to fame, relationships, conservatorship, and regaining her freedom. In the United States alone, ‘The Woman In Me’ has sold more than 2.5 million copies in hardcover, e-book, and audiobook formats. It was also the most-streamed audiobook on Spotify in 2023 and a New York Times bestseller. There are now more than 3 million copies in print globally.
