When will new ‘Poltergeist’ series launch on Amazon Prime Video?

The horror legend, ‘Poltergeist,’ is set to become a series on Amazon Prime Video. The production is currently in its early stages at Amazon MGM studios, as reported by Variety. The series will have the backing of Amblin Television, the television production division of Amblin Partners, owned by Steven Spielberg. The original film had the renowned director as the creator of the story, co-writer, and producer. The plot of the series is currently undisclosed, but it will be set in the universe of the saga, a narrative that revolves around the Freeling family and their new haunted house.

A battle against the unknown ensues, where their young daughter is kidnapped by the spirits, leading them to collaborate with a parapsychologist and a medium to free her and escape the terror.

Poltergeist is coming back

“A middle-class American family moves to a prominent neighbourhood, but in their house, strange events begin to occur, paranormal phenomena for which there is no explanation in a place possessed by malevolent spirits,” as highlighted in the synopsis of the 1982 classic. ‘Poltergeist’ a horror film classic

The success of ‘Poltergeist’ was prominent on a global scale. A film released in 1982 with a budget of 10.7 million dollars, but it would go on to gross $121 million worldwide. Nominated for several Academy Awards due to the spectacularity of its visual effects, sound, and soundtrack, the film’s success was such that it received two sequels in the 1980s, with only Zelda Rubinstein, the medium, and Heather O’Rourke, the famous child, participating in all three original movies.

In 2015, a reboot of the first film was released, but its quality markedly diverged from the original work and did no justice to what is a great classic in the horror film genre.

When will the new Poltergeist series be released?

The question we immediately asked when hearing about this new series - and given that its Halloween we may be even more in the mood - was about how long we have to wait before we can see it. The news wasn’t great.

As yet, according to the reports, no writer has been attached to it. Nor do we have any clear plot details to bring you. Sorry.

That said, a new series can be put together in well under a year so the feeling around these parts could mean a release just in time for next October.
