HOLLYWOOD
Where are the real horror houses that appear in Hollywood movies? How can I visit them?
The most popular residences in the city of Los Angeles have become tourist destinations during the Halloween season.
One of the most popular holidays in the United States is fast approaching: Halloween. Kids, of course, love that extra day to stuff themselves with more candy, and the dressing up is always fun. But then you get to an age where you need something a little more edgy, and that can come in the form of a gruesome or tense horror movie, many of which create the fear within a specially selected house.
(Be aware that there’s some scary stuff below)
Meet Hollywood’s horror houses
So, in celebration of the eagerly awaited days, we thought you’d like to know more about the most famous haunted houses that have appeared in Hollywood movies, and can actually be visited in the month of October. Perhaps the most renowned of them is the house in which Michael Myers made his first bloodcurdling appearance, and where Freddy Krueger began his murderous spree.
Another well-known residence is where the girl from the movie “The Ring” emerges from the screen and starts to crawl towards you. I can feel the tingles just writing that! You can also pay a visit to the mansion that served as the setting for “The Murder House” in the American Horror Story series.
Many of these popular horror movies, handily enough, have been filmed in various residences in Los Angeles, California, which means they can be explored within a respectful distance. As 31 October approaches, you still have time to plan your own itinerary if you are a horror film enthusiast. However, please bear in mind that some of these residences are still inhabited by people - normal people that is - and are not open to the general public, therefore, you will only be able to view them from the outside.
Nightmare on Elm Street
This film is set in the town of Springwood, Ohio, but the majority of the filming took place in Los Angeles. The Springwood High School scenes were shot at John Marshall High School in Silver Lake. An interesting tidbit about this school is that a young Leonardo DiCaprio attended it, according to Movie Locations.
Another popular scene in this movie is when Freddy brutally attacks a young man in the Lincoln Heights jail, but it was actually filmed at the University of California, Los Angeles, located in Westwood. Finally, Nancy Thompson’s house is situated in the city of Hollywood at 1428 N. Genesee Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90046.
Halloween
The famous scene where Michael Myers lurked among the bushes was filmed in the southern part of Pasadena on Montrose Avenue. This city is one of the most popular filming locations for Hollywood, and many homeowners are usually friendly and allow tourists to take photos.
American Horror Story and The Ring
The house where the first season of the series “American Horror Story” was set is located in Hancock Park, near the Olympic Park neighborhood. The architect of this mansion is Alfred Rosenheim, and it was constructed in 1908. Another movie that was filmed in Hancock Park is “The Ring.”
The famous scene in which the girl emerges from the television screen and starts crawling around the room was shot on McCadden Place in the city of Los Angeles.
