‘White Lotus’ season 4: These are the possible locations for the next edition of the HBO series

After the Thailand-set third season of Mike White’s hit series reached its climax on Sunday, the question now is: where will the next instalment take place?

Update:

Locations worldwide are being touted as the next destination for HBO’s hit TV show The White Lotus, which is set to return for another season.

Variety confirmed in January that Mike White’s anthology series has been renewed for a fourth season, with production slated for 2026.

A black comedy set in the fictional ‘White Lotus’ chain of hotels, the murder mystery has so far unfolded at sun-soaked, beachfront resorts.

After kicking off in Hawaii, the series headed to Italy’s Sicilian coast for its second season, before a seaside resort in Thailand was chosen as the backdrop to season three, whose explosive finale was released on Sunday.

Where could The White Lotus season four take place?

Each of The White Lotus’s three instalments to date were filmed at resorts owned by the Four Seasons hotel group, which announced a formal partnership with the series before season three premiered in February.

It looks likely, then, that a Four Seasons location will again be used in season four.

With this in mind, it seems that rumors of a potential Norwegian edition of The White Lotus may well be unfounded, as the Four Seasons currently has no locations in the Scandinavian country.

What’s more, Norway’s chilly climate also appears to rule it out, judging by recent remarks made by series producer David Bernad.

In an interview with the U.K. newspaper The Guardian in February, Bernad revealed that series creator White “doesn’t like the cold”.

“Chances are somewhere in Europe”

While Norway is shaping up as no more than an outsider, HBO’s head of drama has indicated that Europe could well be the setting for The White Lotus’s fourth season.

Speaking to Deadline in February, Francesca Orsi said: “We’re going on some locations scouting in the next couple of weeks, so we’ll know soon.

“I can’t really say where we’re going to land but chances are somewhere in Europe.”

If The White Lotus is to be filmed at the Four Seasons once more, there are ten European countries that the series could go to.

Aside from Italy, which has already had a season of the show, the hotel chain’s website says it has locations in Azerbaijan, the Czech Republic, Greece, France, Hungary, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, the U.K. and Turkey.

At a glance: Four Seasons’ European locations

  • Athens, Greece
  • Baku, Azerbaijan
  • Budapest, Hungary
  • Florence, Italy
  • French Riviera, France
  • Geneva, Switzerland
  • Hampshire, U.K.
  • Istanbul, Turkey
  • Lisbon, Portugal
  • London, U.K.
  • Madrid, Spain
  • Mallorca, Spain
  • Megéve, France
  • Milan, Italy
  • Paris, France
  • Prague, Czech Republic

Australia “checks all the boxes”

While Orsi has pointed to the possibility of another European season, White has previously spoken of his openness to taking the show Down Under.

My dream would be to hit every continent [throughout The White Lotus’s run],” he told a press conference at Sydney’s Vivid Festival in June 2023, per Yahoo! Lifestyle.

“[Filming in Australia] would be so fun,” he added. “Obviously, there’s a huge wealth of talent here and the beauty is inarguable, so it feels like it checks all the boxes.”

The Four Seasons’ only Australian site is in Sydney, where the group has a hotel located next to the city’s iconic harbor.

According to a new report by Parade, however, we can forget about either Europe or Oceania for now.

Is The White Lotus heading to Africa?

Quoting an unnamed insider, the entertainment news outlet cites countries in North Africa and Latin America as the two favorites to host season four, as show runners seek out “somewhere completely new”.

“Right now, it’s looking like the next season of The White Lotus will be shot in Egypt or Mexico,” the source told Parade this month, adding: “The decision should be made soon.”

In Egypt, the Four Seasons has locations in Alexandria, Cairo and Sharm El Sheikh; in Mexico, the chain is present in Mexico City, Cabo del Sol, Costa Palmas, Punta Mita and Tamarindo.

White drops new season four hint

Parade’s report adds to a bumper line-up of potential destinations - but a fresh clue offered up by White could serve to narrow the list of candidates back down.

Speaking after the conclusion of season three, the 54-year-old seemed to suggest that he’s now reluctant to return to a beachside locale for the next The White Lotus.

“For the fourth season, I want to get a little bit out of the crashing waves of rocks vernacular but there’s always more room for more murders at the White Lotus hotels,” White said, per Deadline.
