The 23rd edition of the Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards is just around the corner, with Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles preparing to welcome the biggest and brightest names from worlds of music, film, sport and more, who have been nominated in 21 different categories.

Familiar faces nominated: Beyoncé, Drake

And there are plenty of familiar names amongst the nominees, with the five stars who have been honoured the most in the history of the BET Awards in contention once again in 2023.

Beyoncé has won more awards (33) than anyone else and has again received four nominations this year, including Album of the Year for Renaissance and Best Female R&B/Pop Artist.

Chris Brown, second on the all-time list with 18 wins, has also been dominated four times, but third-placed Drake (15) is this year’s top nominee and could win in seven different categories, Album of the Year and Best Male HipHop Artist included.

Tied on 12 wins are tennis legend Serena Williams, the most successful sportsperson in the history of the awards, and Nicki Minaj. The 23-time Grand Slam champion is again in the running for Sportswoman of the Year, while rapper and singer Minaj has been nominated in the Best Female HipHop Artist and Viewer’s Choice Award for “Super Freaky Girl”.

2022 BET winners look to go back-to-back

Musicians The Weeknd, Latto and Tems, as well as NBA star Stephen Curry and Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka are among last year’s winner who could pick up an award for the second year in a row.
