The 81st Golden Globe awards ceremony takes in Beverly Hills this week. Now is as good a time as any to reflect on some of the memorable winners of previous editions - and particularly, how the Hollywood Foreign Press Association considers every generation from young to old when handing out their awards.

The youngest person ever to win a Golden Globe award is Ricky Schroeder, who was just nine years old when he won New Star of the Year in a Motion Picture for The Champ in 1990. The oldest to win one of the HFPA Globes is Jessica Tandy. At 80 years 227 days she picked up the award for Best Actress for her role in the 1989 comedy-drama Driving Miss Daisy.
