Who is hosting the 2025 Emmy Awards ceremony?
The Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California, is to host the 77th edition of the Primetime Emmy Awards this weekend.
Comedian Nate Bargatze is to host this weekend’s Primetime Emmy Awards, marking his first appearance as the ceremony’s anchor.
“One of the hottest comics”
“It’s a huge honor to be asked to host such an iconic awards show,” Bargatze said in April, after his appointment was announced by the Television Academy, the Emmys’ organizer.
“I’m beyond excited to work with CBS to create a night that can be enjoyed by families around the world."
Cris Abrego, the Television Academy’s chair, added: “Nate is one of the hottest comics in the business with a remarkable and hilarious brand of comedy that deeply resonates with multi-generational audiences around the globe.
“We are thrilled to be able to leverage his one-of-a-kind perspective to entertain TV fans watching this year’s Emmy telecast.”
A Grammy winner and Emmy nominee
Bargatze is himself an Emmy nominee in 2025, having earned two nods - Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) and Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special - for his Netflix stand-up special Your Friend, Nate Bargatze.
Released in 2024, Your Friend, Nate Bargatze is the 46-year-old’s third Netflix special, following The Tennessee Kid and The Greatest Average American.
The Tennessee native won a Grammy for 2021’s The Greatest Average American, scooping Best Comedy Album.
Bargatze has also recorded stand-up specials for Amazon Prime Video and Comedy Central, and is to serve as star, writer and producer on the upcoming comedy movie The Breadwinner, slated for release in 2026.
“We take away $1,000 a second”
In an appearance on the chat show Jimmy Kimmel Live this week, Bargatze revealed that he has hatched a cunning plan to keep Emmy winners’ acceptance speeches within the 45-second time limit.
“I’m going to donate $100,000 to the Boys and Girls Clubs - that’s [the amount] where the show’s starting at,” he told Kimmel.
“If someone goes over, we take away $1,000 a second every time they go over. I know, it’s tough. But if you go under, we will put $1,000 [a second] back on.”
