Who is Karrueche Tran? Chris Brown’s ex the reason for Quavo diss in ‘Weakest Link’
The “Run It” singer attacks Quavo’s love life and brings up ex-girlfriend in his latest track, released on Friday.
We appear to be in an intense new era of diss tracks in the world of music, hip hop and R&B, with even Taylor Swift getting in on the action. J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s seemingly non-stop beef has hit the headlines in recent times, while Chris Brown and Quavo are also locked into an ongoing battle, the latest chapter of which has come in the form of “Weakest Link,” Brown’s latest release. Actress Karrueche Tran is once again at the heart of their dispute.
Why does Chris Brown have beef with Quavo?
Brown has never taken too kindly to Quavo dating his ex-girlfriend Tran, who the “Run It” singer was in a relationship with between 2010 and 2012, and again from 2014-2015, either since of his controversial reconciliation with former flame Rihanna.
The couple split after it was revealed Brown had fathered a child with another woman, with Tran later being granted a five-year restraining order against her ex, which expired in the summer of 2022.
The socialite then dated former New York Giants football player Victor Cruz, as well as Quavo, which is how the beef all began.
Brown’s attacks on Quavo in “Weakest Link”
Brown has thrown some lighter digs Quavo’s way on several occasions over the years, but picks up the pace considerably in “Weakest Link,” which he uploaded to YouTube and Instagram on Friday (19 April).
There are several prongs to the attack, with the title referring to Brown’s view of Quavo’s role within disbanded hip hop group Migos, which the latter’s late nephew Takeoff was also a part of.
“R.I.P. Takeoff, he the only real one, I got true respect / Crazy how when he died, everybody really wished it was you instead,” raps Brown. Ouch.
But the most personal diss is the most cutting one, with Brown claiming to have slept with Quavo’s ex-girlfriend while they were still together. An apparent attempt to get one over on “Huncho” for his fling with Tran.
“You f**ked my ex-ho, that’s cool, I don’t give no f**k, lil n***a / Cause I f***ed yo’ ex when you were still with her, b***h, I’m up.” Classy stuff.
Karrueche Tran’s acting and modelling career
Tran’s relationship with Brown first brought her into the public eye, at which point she began working initially as a model and then as an actress.
She has had two spells appearing as Vivian Johnson in Peacock crime-drama The Bay, a role for which she became the first person of Asian Pacific American descent to win an Emmy Award for Lead Actor or Actress in 2021. Tran’s mother is Vietnamese, while her father is Jamaican-American, although she was born and raised in Los Angeles.
The 35-year-old also played a main part in TNT comedy-drama Claws and had a recurring role in drama series Bel-Air, a more serious reboot of sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, one of the most successful shows in television history.
