Who is The Bachelor host Jesse Palmer?

Palmer, 45, is a former NFL quarterback who was once in Graziadei’s shoes. In 2004, the Canadian was the lead in season five of The Bachelor, finally picking Californian student Jessica Bowlin from a field of 25 contestants vying for his love.

Palmer and Bowlin didn’t last long as a couple, however. They split just a month after the season’s final episode aired in May 2004, Palmer explaining: “Jessica and I shared an incredible romantic journey on the show that began with a friendship that remains strong today. We simply realized that, individually, our next steps take us in different directions.”

Which NFL teams did Palmer play for?

A graduate of the Florida Gators college football programme, Palmer was drafted in 2001 by the New York Giants, who chose the QB at 125th overall. He spent four years with the Giants, but was unable to establish himself as the team’s first-choice signal caller; indeed, he started just three games in the NFL.

After being cut by New York in 2005, he was twice signed by the San Francisco 49ers, only to be released on both occasions without making a single appearance. Having briefly returned to his home country to join Canadian Football League franchise the Montreal Alouettes, Palmer retired to go into broadcasting in 2007.

Moves into broadcasting

Since he called time on his playing career, Palmer has worked as a TV analyst on football coverage aired by networks such as Fox and ESPN. He was also a contributor on Good Morning America, and - on top of The Bachelor - has presented a number of other reality shows. They include The Holiday Baking Championship, The Spring Baking Championship, The Ultimate Surfer, and another dating show: ABC’s short-lived The Proposal.

When did Palmer become The Bachelor host?

Palmer was named as the new host of The Bachelor in September 2021, following Chris Harrison’s dismissal from the role after season 25.

“For more than 20 years, The Bachelor has brought the world dozens of unforgettable love stories, including at one time, my own,” Palmer told Variety magazine in the wake of his appointment. “Falling in love is one of life’s greatest gifts, and I am humbled by the opportunity to return to the show as host this season to offer the newest Bachelor advice gained from firsthand experience and I am grateful to play a small part in his journey.”

Palmer also fronts The Bachelorette, as well as the spin-off shows The Golden Bachelor (contested by senior citizens) and Bachelor in Paradise (which takes place in what ABC describes as “a secluded, dreamy paradise in Mexico”).
