Why did the UK band Oasis break up? Why are they definitely maybe reforming?

In 2009, amidst mounting tension within the iconic rock band Oasis, Noel Gallagher, the band’s co-founder and lead guitarist, made the difficult and emotionally charged decision to part ways with the group. This consequential announcement came after another heated dispute with his brother and bandmate, Liam. The repercussions of this decision were felt deeply as the band was forced to cancel their performance in Paris, prompting a profound apology from Noel to their devoted, albeit crestfallen, fan base.

In expressing his reasons for departing from Oasis, Noel explicitly attributed his exit to the irreconcilable differences that had long plagued his relationship with his brother, Liam.

“It’s with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight. People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.”

Things started to break a few months before that final concert in Paris, which was never held. There were insults on stage, via Twitter, fights, and tears at the airports when they were traveling on tour. In addition to having stopped communicating, the feuding brothers have not even traveled together for some time. The duo was known for their frequent conflicts, but things got out of control that day.

Noel Gallagher has revealed his version of what happened on the fateful night when, as Oasis prepared to go onstage at the Rock En Seine festival in Paris, an argument broke out, with Liam wielding Noel’s guitar around “like an axe.”

A few days later, Noel added, “The details are not important and of too great a number to list. But I feel you have the right to know that the level of verbal and violent intimidation towards me, my family, friends, and comrades has become intolerable. And the lack of support and understanding from my management and bandmates has left me with no other option than to get my cape and seek new pastures.”

Noel later claimed that the argument was started over an ad for Liam’s clothing firm Pretty Green in the V Festival program… However, Noel later told Radio X: “I had enough when Liam and Bonehead - and this is true - started arguing over a leather jacket. I am not even kidding. I can dress it up more than this, but this is what happened.”

Brotherly love broke, and after that, there were insults on stage, again via Twitter, fights over music rights, and avoidance in public. Apart from the fact that they stopped communicating, it was clear that things got out of hand this time; Noel even confirmed and admitted that his son Donovan had never met his uncle Liam.

Are they maybe reuniting?

The newspaper The Times reported rumors within the industry that Oasis would reunite for shows at Manchester’s Heaton Park and for a 10-night residency at Wembley Stadium. This would surpass Taylor Swift’s record for performing at the iconic venue.

During his headline set at Leeds Festival on Friday, August 23rd, Liam said just before performing the Oasis song “Half The World Away”: “It is very interesting, isn’t it? It is a very interesting situation we’ve found ourselves in.”

Amidst the flurry of speculation and excitement surrounding a potential reunion, The Mail On Sunday stoked the flames by suggesting that Oasis could take the spotlight as the headlining act for Glastonbury 2025.

According to an unnamed source, there’s a prevailing sentiment that the irresistible draw of Glastonbury next summer may be too great for Liam and Noel to resist despite the weariness that can accompany ongoing reunion discussions. Just as a reminder, the last time they headlined Glastonbury was back in June 2004.
