Why is Glenn Close no longer presenting at the 2023 Oscars?
Close was slated to present alongside her ‘Air Force One’ costar Harrison Ford, but the 75-year-old will not be in attendance for Sunday’s ceremony after testing positive for COVID-19 according to the Associated Press.
A representative told the outlet that she is currently isolating and resting. Other name still scheduled to present include Nicole Kidman, Antonio Banderas, Ariana DeBose, Harrison Ford, Jessica Chastain, Samuel L. Jackson, Janelle Monáe and John Cho.
Close isn’t the first big name to miss out on an award ceremony this year. Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Michelle Pfeiffer and Jamie Lee Curtis were all absent from the Critics Choices Awards after testing positive for COVID-19.
Lin-Manuel-Miranda was forced to bow out of attending the 94th annual Oscars in person last year after his wife tested positive for COVID-19.
Media were required to test negative by the event producers, though they did not need proof of vaccination. Those seated in the Dolby Theater orchestra and parterre must be tested, while those in the Mezzanine and Balconies do not require tests.
Close and the Academy Awards
Close is an eight-time Academy Award nominee. ‘Air Force One’, the film that she starred alongside Ford, earned two Oscar nominations, for Best Sound and Best Film Editing, back in 1998.
The 95th annual Academy Awards will begin at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT and be broadcast on ABC. Held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, the ceremony will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel for the third time.
