Jennifer Lopez is set to release a new album in 2023, and the singer has opened up about the process behind it.

Although there is no official date attached to ‘This is Me... Now’, the 53-year-old did stated back in March that the album would be released in the summer.

During an appearance on ‘Live With Kelly & Mark’ on Friday, Lopez explained why the album will bring a fresh perspective.

“I haven’t really made an album like this in 20 years, is the truth. The last time when I did, ‘This Is Me… Then’, is the last time I remember doing an album like this, where I was in the studio every single day writing very single song, doing every single thing,” Lopez told Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos.

Lopez added that ‘This Is Me...Then’ and the upcoming ‘This Is Me...Now’ will show different parts of her relationship with Ben Affleck.

The two were in a relationship in the early 2000s, though they later split in 2004 despite getting engaged.

Lopez and Affleck got back together in May 2021 and then married in July 2022.

“I was very inspired at that time when I wrote ‘This Is Me… Then’,” said Lopez.

“Anybody who knows about that album [knows] it really was about me falling in love at that time with the love of my life, and now, 20 years later, who would’ve ever thought we would’ve [gotten back together]?

What we know about Lopez’s new album

Although no release date has been announced for ‘This is Me... Now’, Lopez shed some light on what fans can expect.

Along with a new song called ‘Dear Ben Pt. II’, a follow-up to the 2002 song ‘Dear Ben’, Lopez revealed there will also be a song called ‘Hummingbird’.

“To me, hummingbirds are messengers of love,” she explained in her On the JLo official newsletter.

“I identify with them, but more than anything, whenever I see one, I feel like it’s a sign from God that everything is going to be OK.”
