Why Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour only features one ‘Speak Now’ song

Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’ resumes with shows at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas Nevada on Friday and Saturday.

However, fans in attendance shouldn’t expect to hear many songs from her ‘Speak Now’ album if last weekend’s shows are anything to go by.

The tour marks the 33-year-old’s return to the stage after her ‘LoverFest Tour’ was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Swift performed for over three hours and delivered 44 songs during her opening shows at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, but some songs were noticeably missing.

Why Swift is avoiding ‘Speak Now’ songs

Swift lost all the rights to her music when her old label, Big Machine Records, sold her music to Scooter Braun, who is the manager of Justin Bieber.

Since then, Swift has slowly been rerecording her music and releasing those albums with new, unheard songs.

So far, she has rereleased ‘Fearless’ and ‘Red’, but she hasn’t done so for ‘Speak Now’ or her debut album, ‘Taylor Swift’, which may explain why they don’t feature in the ‘Eras Tour’ setlist.

Fans speculated the release of ‘Speak Now’ (Taylor’s version) may have even come before the start of the ‘Eras Tour’ given Swift packed her latest music videos for ‘Bejeweled’ and ‘Lavender Haze’ with several Easter eggs, something she is known to do.

That hasn’t happened however, which only adds to Swift’s reasoning to not play songs from ‘Speak Now’.

Only one ‘Speak Now’ song is on the setlist

During the opening night of the ‘Eras Tour’, Swift stated she will play two surprise songs every night that will differ at each show. She played ‘Mirrorball’ from ‘Folklore’ and ‘Tim McGraw’, her first ever single, from her debut album on the first night.

On the second night, she played ‘this is me trying’ and ‘State of Grace’, meaning she doesn’t have any songs from her first album on the official setlist.

As for ‘Speak Now’, the only song Swift has on the setlist from that album is ‘Enchanted’.

That isn’t that surprising given Swift can’t play her songs until she has released them under her name, it’s likely she also doesn’t want fans to stream the music that is currently owned by Scooter Braun.
