Why won’t Lady Gaga be performing at the 2023 Academy Awards?
Despite being invited to perform ‘Hold My Hand’ from ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, Lady Gaga might not be able to attend the Oscars.
It is customary at every Oscars ceremony for the nominees in the Best Original Song category to perform their nominated songs throughout the night. Lady Gaga is nominated for her song ‘Hold My Hand’ from the film ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, yet the singer has not confirmed her attendance likely due to her filming schedule.
The 36-year-old singer and songwriter is currently busy shooting ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’, which is a sequel to 2019′s ‘Joker’. The film will feature Joaquin Phoenix reprising his role as Joker/Arthur Fleck and Gaga joins the cast as Harley Quinn.

Harley Quinn is one of the most popular DC Comics characters. She is best known for her unhinged personality and is often portrayed to be in a romantic relationship with the Joker.
The character has been adapted into live-action before with Margot Robbie portraying the character for three DC movies: ‘Suicide Squad’, ‘Birds of Prey’ and ‘The Suicide Squad’.
Since ‘Joker’ takes place in a different universe, the role was passed on to another actress.
Gaga shared a first look at her Harley Quinn on her Instagram. The photo features Harley and Joker moments after a passionate kiss with the former appearing completely infatuated.
‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ is expected to be released in theaters on October 4, 2024.
Gaga and the Academy
‘Hold My Hand’ marks the singer’s fourth Oscar nomination. After receiving her nomination Gaga took to Instagram to express her gratitude.
“Thank you so much to the Academy for nominating my song ‘Hold My Hand’ for an Oscar this year!” she wrote. “Writing this song for the film ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ was a deep and powerful experience that I will never forget.
“So grateful for the magic of music and cinema,” she exclaimed.
Also nominated in the Best Original Song category is Rihanna for ‘Lift Me Up’, Sofia Carson and Dianne Warren for ‘Applause’, Stephane Hsu, David Byrne, and Son Lux for ‘This Is a Life’ and Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava for ‘Naatu Naatu’.
