Will Smith breaks silence after Jada Pinkett’s relationship comments
The actor has written an email to the New York Times, where he points out some inner truths about his wife following their troubles.
Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith were undoubtedly the protagonists, alongside Chris Rock, of the 2022 Oscars ceremony. Will made headlines for slapping the comedic host after the latter made an inappropriate comment about Jada. Now, Jada has surprised the world by revealing that she has been separated from the actor since 2016, seven years ago.
Will and Jada: complicated
Will and Jada are still legally married as they have not filed for separation and have no plans to do so due to the “deep love” they share and the promise they made 25 years ago to be “forever.” Jada states in her memoir, ‘Worthy’: “I made a promise that there would never be a reason we would divorce. We would work on anything. And I just haven’t been able to break that promise.”
These revelations from her book have prompted Will Smith to respond for the first time. He sent an email to the New York Times, in which he expresses that Jada’s memoirs have awakened him and made him realize that she is more “resilient, intelligent, and compassionate than he believed.”
In the email, the actor shows that he still feels genuine love for Jada, stating: When you’ve been with someone for more than half of your life, a sort of emotional blindness sets in. And you can all too easily lose your sensitivity to their hidden nuances and subtle beauties.”
These words came after Jada Pinkett’s interview on ‘Today,’ in which she revealed their separation, sparking numerous reactions. She explained, “I think when we got to 2016, we were both really exhausted with trying. We were both still trying to fit into the mold of what we thought the other person should be...
“We decided we were going to separate for a period of time and you figure out how to make yourself happy, and I’ll figure out how to make myself happy.”
