At the Cannes Film Festival, actress Paris Jackson dropped the biggest hint yet that there could be a fifth season of the hit series.

Season 4 of Emily in Paris premieres at the Egyptian Theater in Los Angeles on Wednesday with the first of four screenings of Netflix’s romcom-drama starting Lily Collins as Emily Cooper tip-toeing her way through the cultural minefield of the French capital as an aspiring marketing executive.

The first three episodes of the fourth season will be screened in LA tomorrow and Thursday with the first batch of five episodes also going on general release on Thursday (15 August). The second half of season 4 will follow on Thursday 12 September.

Season 5 walk-on role auctioned at amfAR Gala

But even before Season 4 drops, there have been suggestions that a fifth season is already in the pipeline. The biggest hint came at Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roccap D’Antibes during the 30th amfAR Gala Cannes back in May. The annual black tie gala raises money for HIV and AIDS research with $16 million raised at this year’s event.

Among the lots in the charity auction were a Damien Hirst spot painting, an Andy Warhol Elizabeth Taylor print, a pair of Chopard earrings worn by Demi Moore and a cameo in the next season of Emily in Paris...

One of you is going to leave here tonight with a walk-on role in season 5 of the hit TV show Emily In Paris,” host Paris Jackson told attendees, adding that filming for the new season would begin in mid-2025.

Variety co-editor-in-chief Ramin Setoodeh revealed that the lot, for a a guest role in Emily in Paris’ fifth season, sold for 250,00 euros ($275,000) but did not disclose who won.

As of the moment, Netflix has not officially renewed the series for a fifth season. Season 4 was confirmed in July 2023 and production began in April of this year, so in comparison, the proposed new series is already behind schedule. Having said that, with Season 4 about to drop, it makes no sense for the streaming service to get ahead of itself.

‘Emily in Paris’ Season 5 still not signed off

The amfAR website has included a disclaimer in its description of the lot: “As part of the walk-on role, the winning bidder will have the opportunity to spend a day on set in Paris during filming, contingent upon season 5 pickup”. The last words underlining the fact that Netflix have not yet signed off another series.

However, it seems unlikely that series creator Darren Star would offer such a role at a high-profile charity auction without knowing that another season could be along the way.

It looks like that there is still more mileage in Emily’s French adventure, her ongoing search for romance and struggles with the language. Watch this space...
