GRAVITY FALLS
Will there be a Gravity Falls season 3?
It’s been over ten years since the release of Gravity Falls Season 2 with speculation rife that a third installment may be in the offering.
Created by Alex Hirsch for Disney, Gravity Falls is an American mystery comedy animated television series and follows the adventures of Dipper Pines (Jason Ritter) and his twin sister Mabel (Kristen Schaal), who are sent to spend the summer with their great-uncle (or “Grunkle”) Stan (Hirsch) in Gravity Falls, Oregon, a mysterious town full of paranormal incidents and supernatural creatures.
The series premiered originally in June 15, 2012, and ran for just under four years when Hirsch announced that the series would conclude with its second season, stating that this was “100% [his] choice” and that “the show isn’t being cancelled – it’s being finished” and was reaching its intended conclusion.
The final episode, a one hour special entitled “Weirdmageddon 3: Take Back the Falls” was broadcast in February, 2016 with Hirsch repeatedly stating that he remains open to continuing the series with additional episodes or specials.
Season 3 in the works?
The loyal Gravity Falls fan base had resigned themselves to the fact that no future shows would be produced but comments from Disney top-brass have reignited hope that we may get to see more adventures with Dipper and Mabel in the not-too distant future.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with US based The Direct, Executive Vice President of Television Animation and Disney Branded Television Meredith Roberts, revealed that fans should “never say never,” and there have “conversations with [creator] Alex [Hirsch]” about a potential comeback.
This is not a guarantee that fans are going to get to see a bonafide Season 3 (as Hirsch has made it clear on a number of times that he had a defined vision for the story of the original series), but we may see something Gravity Falls-related in the pipeline.
