Singer-songwriter Willie Nelson has enjoyed a decades-long career as a musician. On April 29, Nelson turned 90-years-old, which is a milestone he admitted he didn’t think he would ever reach.

To celebrate, a two-day concert will be held at the Hollywood Bowl, an event that is expected to draw in around 18,000 fans each night. The concert will feature performances by Nelson as well as his friends, Sheryl Crow, Miranda Lambert, Kris Kristofferson and Geroge Strait.

“I never thought I’d get here,” Nelson told People Magazine. “This ain’t nothing. It’s another day.”

The 90-year-old went on to explain that having fun on stage is the best gift he could ever ask for.

“I get a lot of fun out of playing for an audience,” he said. “There’s a great energy exchange there. It’s what keeps me going.”

Nelson’s history

Nelson was born in 1933 during the Great Depression and raised by his grandparents in Abott, Texas. He began writing songs at a young age and even joined a band at age 10.

In 1960, Nelson decided to shoot his shot by moving to Nashville, Tennessee. This is where he made his debut with ‘...And Then I Wrote’ which became a success.

In 1979, Nelson would try his hand at acting. His first movie was ‘The Electric Horseman’ and he would go on to star in over 30 films.

Marriage and retirement

Nelson has been married a total of four times. He has been married to his fourth wife, Annie D’Angelo, for over 31 years.

“I call her my pet rattler,” Nelson said of D’Angelo. “She’s my lover, my wife, nurse, doctor, bodyguard.”

While Nelson doesn’t plan on retiring anytime soon, he has slowed down his career.

“There’s probably other things I will do and can do, but I’m not going to push myself too hard,” he said. “I know one day it all ends, but I’m not rushing it.”
