Younger generation gets what it needs: The Rolling Stones on TikTok
The Rolling Stones joined the popular social media platform, allowing access to their music to be available en masse and exposing them to the new generation.
The iconic rock band, The Rolling Stones, has stepped into the new era, registering an official band account on TikTok, along with a kick-off hashtag, #TheRollingStones. Fans will be able to see exclusive live streams, historic footage, and hear about band up-dates as they happen.
The members of the band have even got onboard with their own personal accounts, so fans can see what frontman Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards are up to day to day.
Why did the Rolling Stones join TikTok?
The Rolling Stones on TikTok means a lot more exposure for the band. But some fans will wonder why they are doing it now, so late in the game. Is it a strive to remain relevant in future generations? Or are they just having a bit of fun, engaging audiences of all ages?
One indicator is what they’ve been posting on the platform so far. There is fantastic footage of concerts past, old interviews, and classic moments like Keith Richards’ guitar chop.
As for Jagger and Richards, they’ve had some fun teaming up to make a TikTok playlist of their best 44 tracks and hinting at releasing more music and touring.

The brave new world with The Stones on TikTok means that creators can integrate their music into their content as open-source material. According to the TikTok newsroom, the whole music catalogue will be available to the public.
A post on their website states: “For the first time, the TikTok community will be able to use the band’s iconic tracks in their video creations. Users will be able to create covers and remixes of iconic hits like ‘Start Me Up’, ‘It’s Only Rock ‘N Roll (But I Like It)’ & ‘Miss You’. These tracks are all available on the TikTok Sounds Page.”
The Stones and the next generation
Some young people have never listened to — or heard of — classic rock and roll music like The Rolling Stones.
The legendary rock band is 60 years in the making and still going. The Stones joining TikTok means that some will be listening to their music for the first time.
And they just might find — they get what they need.
