Monthly Social Security checks: How much will be sent in 2023?

This year, thanks to the 8.7% increase in the cost-of-living adjustment, average retiree payments increased to about $1,827, the SSA revealed in January. The maximum benefit for those who retire at age 62 is $2,572 per month, $3,627 per month for workers retiring at full retirement age (67), and $4,555 for those retiring at age 70 or later.

$1,800 Social Security Checks: Exact Mailing Dates in July 2023

According to SSA’s schedule, Supplemental Security Income payments are generally sent out on the first day of each month. However, if the first day of the month falls on a Saturday or Sunday, payments are sent on the previous Friday.

On the third of each month, the SSA sends money to those who began receiving their Social Security payments before May 1997. The rest of the Social Security checks are sent based on the beneficiary’s birthday:

  • Second Wednesday of the month: recipients with a date of birth between the 1st and 10th
  • Third Wednesday: beneficiaries born between the 11th and 20th day
  • Fourth Wednesday: beneficiaries born between the 21st and 31st

Based on the schedule above, here are the exact dates Social Security payments are mailed in July:

  • July 3: Payees who started receiving their payments before May 1997
  • July 12: Beneficiaries with a date of birth between 1 and 10
  • July 19: Beneficiaries with a date of birth between 11 and 20
  • July 26: Beneficiaries with a date of birth between 21 and 31

Why aren’t Supplemental Security Income payments being sent in July?

As mentioned above, recipients of the SSI program receive their payments on the first day of each month. However, if the first day of the month falls on a weekend, payments are sent in advance. This is the case in July.

Because the first day of July falls on a Saturday, the SSI payment for that month is advanced and sent from June 30. That’s why SSI recipients get two payments in June, but don’t have a payment scheduled for July.
