$1,900 Social Security payments today if your birth date is one of these
Wednesday 8 May sees another run of payments from the Social Security Administration, and you can quickly check if you are one of the beneficiaries.
The Social Security Administration (SSA) has commenced distributing payments for May to its recipients. As part of its routine, the SSA disburses funds to beneficiaries of the retirement program, survivors, and individuals receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
Two payments have already been processed for this month, with the next one scheduled for today, Wednesday 8 May.
Who will receive $1,900 Social Security payments on 8 May?
Thanks to the cost of living adjustment (COLA), the average payments for retired workers have increased to slightly over $1,900 this year. However, the specific amount varies among individual beneficiaries.
According to the SSA payment schedule, Supplemental Security Income payments are issued on the first day of each month. For beneficiaries who started receiving retirement payments before May 1997, payments are sent out on the 3rd of each month. Consequently, two payments have already been disbursed for this month.
For retirees, survivors, and SSDI recipients, the remaining Social Security checks are sent on Wednesdays, depending on the beneficiaries’ date of birth. Therefore, today, Wednesday 8 May, payments will be sent to those born between the first and the 10th of any given month.
The distribution of the rest of the May payments will proceed as follows:
Am I entitled to a dual payment in May?
The simple answer is, yes. Normally, the SSA dispatches Supplemental Security Income payments on the initial day of each month. However, in May, beneficiaries will receive a dual payment. The reason behind this is that 1 June falls on a Saturday, prompting the advance issuance of the payment for June to 31 May.
SSI payments are transmitted through direct deposit to beneficiaries who have furnished their bank account details to the SSA, or alternatively, they are dispatched via mail.
Social Security: ow much do beneficiaries receive?
While average payments for retired workers rose to just over $1,900, other Social Security payments are as follows for 2024 thanks to the cost of living adjustment (COLA):
