Abbott was always favored to win, but after the disastrous law enforcement response in Uvalde, some believed the increased gun violence in the state could push voters toward O’Rourke. Additionally, after the Texas legislature enacted one of the strictest abortion laws in the country, Democratic party leaders had thought women and young voters could flip the state. This turned out not to be the case.
The governor tweeted his thanks to his supporters, saying, “I will work every day to earn the trust you have placed in me.”
House
Texas is divided into 38 congressional districts, each of which will elect its representatives for the 118th Congress. The Lone Star State will send twenty-five Republicans and thirteen Democrats to Washington DC in January.
