2023 NYC Marathon: List of road closures and what time they reopen
The New York City marathon will take place on Sunday 5 November with around 50,000 runners traversing all 5 boroughs. Here’s the roads that will be closed.
The annual New York City marathon will take place rain or shine 5 November with an expected 50,000 participants. Fortunately for the runners the forecast is for the 52nd edition is that of perfect conditions. And while the temperatures will be mild, spectators dressed for the occasion too will be able to enjoy the day cheering on those doing the leg work so to say.
However, those aho are not motivating the runners or participating and need to get around on Sunday will have to navigate road closures to facilitate the marathon’s route through the five boroughs. We’ll share with you where and when to expect detours during the day.
2023 NYC Marathon: List of road closures and what time they reopen
The New York City marathon will start on the Verrazano Bridge with the wheelchair division getting going at 8 am ET. The staging area for runners will be located at Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island. After crossing into Brooklyn the estimated 50,000 runners will traverse all five boroughs along a 26.2 mile route before finishing in Manhattan’s Central Park.
There will be rolling street closures throughout the city’s five boroughs between approximately 6:30 am and 7 pm on Sunday. The city warns that “all race information and street closures are subject to change at any time.” For the most up-to-date information it’s recommended to check the Traffic Condition page for real-time traffic and travel conditions along the marathons route and throughout the city. - The 86th Street Transverse Road will remain open.
- No buses will be allowed to cross 5th Avenue during the race
