The largest Democrat event of the year will be held at the United Center and McCormick Place meaning travel disruption for many.
The 2024 Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago, taking place from August 19 to 22, will result in significant street closures, parking restrictions, and security perimeters around the United Center and McCormick Place. Here are the details:
United Center
Street closures begin on Saturday, August 17, at 7 p.m
- West Washington Boulevard from Damen Avenue to South Wood
- Street Damen Avenue from Jackson Boulevard to West Washington Boulevard
- West Warren Boulevard from North Leavitt Street to South Paulina Street
- West Madison Street from North Leavitt Street to South Paulina Street
- West Monroe Street from South Seeley Avenue to South Paulina Street
- West Adams Street from South Seeley Avenue to South Paulina Street
- South Honore Street from West Monroe Street to West Adams Street
- South Wood Street from West Washington Boulevard to West Jackson Boulevard
- South Seeley Avenue from West Madison Street to West Adams Street.
Fencing installation began on August 12, with rolling closures expected during the build-out phase.
McCormick Place
Street closures begin on Friday, August 16, at 10 p.m.
- West Washington Boulevard from Damen Avenue to South Wood Street
- Damen Avenue from Jackson Boulevard to West Washington Boulevard
- West Warren Boulevard from North Leavitt Street to South Paulina Street

Similar to the United Center, fencing installation began on August 12, with rolling closures expected.
Additional restrictions
Normal parking operations will be maintained outside the security perimeter unless otherwise posted. Vehicles not removed by the designated time will be towed.
Detours are in place around the United Center and McCormick Place, and rolling street closures are anticipated due to DNC activities. Check your favourite maps app to see routes.
The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) will not have rail service impacts, but bus reroutes are expected.
