Several major listeria outbreaks have been reported across the country over the last year, and Kroger is the latest source of contaminated food products. The supermarket giant has recalled over 24,000 chicken tacos over concerns that they may be infected.

The recall was initially reported in October, but the classification increased to Level II, meaning the outbreak may be more severe than initially thought.

In some cases, tracking the possibly contaminated products can be challenging because the contained meat can end up in various food products. In the case of this outbreak, there are only a handful, all produced by Fresh Creative Foods or by Reser’s Fine Foods Inc.

So far a total of 6,793 cases have been reported, and the reclassification means that the number could grow in the coming weeks.
