Update:

Stanley, the viral reusable bottle, cup, and mug company, has issued a recall after over a dozen customers received server burns as a result of a defect in the cup’s lid. Since 2016, the year the products entered the supply chain, the company has recorded ninety-one reports of accidents involving the product, sixteen of which were from customers in the United States. In many cases, injuries were avoided, but in eleven cases (two in the US), Stanley customers had to seek medical attention for their burns.

Why is the recall being issued?

The recall published by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on Thursday, December 12, states that product’s “lid threads can shrink when exposed to heat and torque, causing the lid to detach during use, posing a burn hazard.” The product is sold under the name, the Switchback and Trigger Action travel mugs, and are sold in a variety of colors (white, black and green) and sizes (12 oz., 16 oz. and 20 oz.).

Which products are covered by the recall?

To know if your Stanley cup falls under the recall, customers are advised to flip their mug upsidedown and to find the product identification number.
