A $10,200 stimulus is coming to California: Find out if you qualify

Beneficiaries of the Creative Growth Fellowship program in the city of Sacramento, California, will soon start receiving their $850 monthly payments, which will be distributed every month through August 2026. Since the program runs for 12 months, the total amount each participant will receive is $10,200.

The fellowship was created to support artists residing in Sacramento so they can “develop and advance their artistic careers.” The selected artists represent a wide range of disciplines, including crafts, performing arts, design, film, music, literature, and visual arts.

According to the program’s website, due to limited funding, only 200 artists were selected. Applications were reviewed by an “independent and rigorous” panel. You can find the full list of beneficiaries here.

Creative Growth Fellowship: Eligibility

Program administrators stated that, for now, there are no plans for a second round of this fellowship. However, here are the eligibility requirements and documents that were needed in case the program continues in the future.

Applicants had to meet multiple requirements, including being residents of the City of Sacramento, being at least 18 years old, and being able to demonstrate artistic work in fields such as crafts, dance, design, film, literary arts, music, oral traditions, social practice, theater, performing arts, traditional arts, visual arts, or interdisciplinary arts.

In addition, applicants were required to submit certain documents, such as a government-issued photo ID (U.S. or foreign), proof of residency, and a payment method to receive their funds.

The total payment amount is $10,200. According to the program, this amount is considered a stipend or honorarium to help the artist support their work or living expenses during the 12-month period, from September of this year through August 2026.

Eligible participants must also complete a short online survey at the beginning, halfway point, and end of the fellowship period, as well as submit a summary of their activity at the end. Failure to submit the surveys may result in suspension of payments.
