A cruise passenger reveals the one word that can’t be said onboard the ship
One passenger has revealed the one word that is unutterable while aboard a cruise.
That ship you’re talking about—the great cruise liner that left Europe for America, the Titanic—is one of the “forbidden words” on cruises, according to TikTok influencer Marc Sebastian. Sebastian spent 18 days aboard Royal Caribbean’s Serenade of the Seas, part of a 274-day voyage visiting 11 wonders of the world and more than 60 countries.
The company invited the young creator to experience what it’s like to spend nine months living in a floating city, traveling through the Americas, Asia Pacific, the Middle East, the Mediterranean, and Europe—at a cost of between €50,000 and €115,000 per passenger.
In a video that’s been viewed more than 4.3 million times, Sebastian shared what he learned in his first weeks on board. The biggest surprise? The word no one is allowed to say—the ultimate taboo at sea: Titanic.

Cruise ship forbidden word revealed
“Titanic! It’s the ultimate taboo when you’re on a giant ship sailing the ocean. Even after all these years, it’s still too soon for comparisons or jokes, even light ones,” he says.
It’s the same logic as never joking about drowning in a swimming pool, quoting Final Destination on a plane, or making gun jokes at airport security. Sebastian also discovered that cruise ships have “godmothers” and that their pools are filled with seawater. And after weeks of work—and surviving the notoriously rough Drake Passage—he says he felt genuine relief to set foot on land again.
