Albert Einstein, scientist: “Life is like riding a bicycle, to keep your balance you have to keep moving”

Beyond his scientific discoveries, he was an influential thinker and a figure deeply engaged with social and political issues.

Albert Einstein, uno de los más importantes físicos de la historia de la humanidad.

Albert Einstein was born on March 14, 1879, in Ulm, in the Kingdom of Württemberg, which was then part of the German Empire. From a very young age he showed a strong interest in science and mathematics. In 1921, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics.

For many years, it was widely claimed that he had been a poor student. In reality, he earned good grades, particularly in physics and mathematics. However, his rebellious personality and his resistance to authority caused him some academic difficulties.

From an early age, he was considered a distant and eccentric person. This perception may have contributed to the popular image of the “mad scientist,” reinforced by his relaxed appearance and his lack of concern for formalities.

Throughout his life he published numerous scientific papers on topics such as Brownian motion, the theory of relativity, and the equivalence between mass and energy, expressed in his famous equation E = mc². Despite the importance of this formula, the Nobel Prize was not awarded for it.

University professor

Einstein built a long career as a university professor at several European institutions, particularly in Switzerland, as well as in Czechoslovakia and Germany. In 1913, he accepted a position at the prestigious Prussian Academy of Sciences in Berlin.

Among his greatest contributions is the theory of general relativity, presented in 1915, which offered a new description of gravity. However, he received the Nobel Prize for his explanation of the photoelectric effect. He also played an indirect but significant role in the development of nuclear energy.

During his lifetime, he left behind many famous quotes, such as: “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving,” and “We are all very ignorant. What happens is that not all ignore the same things.”

Among the interesting details of his life is that he played the violin and even performed in charity concerts. He also declined the proposal to become the second president of Israel.

Albert Einstein died on April 18, 1955, at Princeton Hospital as a result of an internal hemorrhage.
