Memorial Day plans for those in the Los Angeles area may have been disrupted over the long weekend after the county’s Department of Public Health issued an alert to stay out of the water at certain beaches after various harmful bacteria have been found.

Various tests have concluded that there is a level of bacteria that exceeds health standards at the following California beaches: Mother’s Beach in Marina Del Rey, Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica, Topanga Canyon Beach in Malibu, Malibu Lagoon in Surfrider Beach, Latigo Shore Drive in Malibu, Marie Canyon Storm Drain in Puerco Beach, and Las Flores Creek in Las Flores State Beach. With the warning in place, tourists and residents are urged to avoid swimming, surfing, and playing in the water at these locations.
